Are You Changing Your Oil Too Often?

If you're changing your oil every 3,000 miles, it's probably too much. You may be wondering how so. Fair enough, that's a question we get all the time at Lone Star Chevrolet in Houston, TX. Due to the improvements in vehicle engines and the advances in oil technology, most cars don't need their oil changed until 7,500 miles. Most cars that are under 20 years old should only need it about every 5,000 miles if you're uncertain.

The best place to find out how often to change your oil is your owner's manual. If you don't have that available, feel free to call us at our Houston service center and we'll be happy to check it out for you. You can also do it the "old fashioned" way and just check it with a dipstick and a towel. If the oil is black, it's time to get in for an oil change. For other tips, be sure to check back often!
